General Permit Information
Permits issued by the Village are issued pursuant to Village Code. Village permits do not confer any approval or right to violate any restrictive property covenant, easement right, Association Declaration or other restriction which may be recorded or affecting the property. Property owners are encouraged to review their property records and if the property is governed by an Association, to contact their Association to ascertain if the desired work or improvement is acceptable prior to obtaining a Village permit. For some work, additional permits or authorization may be required from other governmental agencies.
Fees for all permits are established by the Village Board and must be paid prior to the issuance of a permit. The amount of a particular permit fee is based on a number of factors, depending on the nature of the work, including the type of work planned and its improvement value. Permit fees are not refundable. In addition to payment of a permit fee, certain projects may also require the payment of a deposit. Deposits are held by the Village for the duration of the project. While the Village may use deposits to correct certain substandard work, deposits are generally refunded at the conclusion of the project
